Dexter Mosely Act Information
Under the Dexter Mosely Act (Senate Bill 42), home study students (who reside in Rabun County) in grades six through twelve are eligible to participate in extracurricular and interscholastic activities in Rabun County Schools.
To participate, home study students shall complete at least one qualifying course during any semester the student participates in an extracurricular or interscholastic activity. The qualifying course and class time are determined by the school administration. Students participating in dual enrollment courses under the supervision of the school system are at the discretion of the school administration and are based on qualification criteria set by the course/program. The school system reserves the right to identify the official start day of the student's qualifying course.
Additionally, according to the Dexter Mosely Act (SB42), a student who withdraws from a public school to participate in a home study program shall be ineligible for participation in any extracurricular or interscholastic activity for 12 months from the date of the declaration of intent to utilize a home study program provided to the Georgia Department of Education.
It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to complete the steps below at least 30 calendar days prior to the start of the semester in which the student wishes to participate. It is the parents’ responsibility to meet the deadline in regard to enrollment.
